Cam Akers, one of the top-ranked recruits in the country, will announce today which college he’ll attend.

He’ll do so at 8 p.m. ET, making his announcement live on HSFNetwork.com. Akers is expected to choose between Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Akers, regularly considered in the conversation for the best high school football players in Mississippi history, led Clinton to a 6A state championship this season running for 2,105 yards and 34 touchdowns, and throwing for 3,128 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. He played quarterback for the Arrows, but has been recruited exclusively as a running back.

Each of the major recruiting services considers Akers a five-star prospect; 247 and Scout.com both rank Akers No. 4 nationally, while Rivals has him No. 8. He’s a U.S. Army All-American and the Mississippi Gatorade player of the year.

Akers has so far not done anything to tip his hand. He was once committed to Alabama, but decommitted in March and has since backed off the Tide. While he’s expected to have an Alabama hat on the table as one of his finalists, Alabama and Georgia are not considered primary contenders.

Florida State and LSU have recruited Akers throughout the process with a focused recruiting pitch based off the fact both are expected to lose running backs to the NFL (the Seminoles’ Dalvin Cook has yet to declare, while the Tigers’ Leonard Fournette did weeks ago) and have the system to make Akers the latest running back to excel in their systems and move on to the next level.

Ole Miss, meanwhile, has been recruiting Akers the longest of any of the schools, and while the Rebels have never had a top-shelf running back under coach Hugh Freeze, they’ve insisted Akers will be the first. And he’ll be centerpieced in an explosive offense with rising sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson and wide receivers Van Jefferson, A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf.

Tennessee has also been a strong factor at times, and running backs coach Robert Gillespie has a strong relationship with Akers.
