MONTGOMERY, Ala. – There may not be another player in Mississippi this season who has experienced both the feelings of jubilation and uncertainty that can come in recruiting as often as Myles Brennan has.
A quick recap: Brennan verbally committed to LSU in April. His recruiters, Les Miles and Cam Cameron, were both fired this season. He stuck with LSU and supported then-interim coach Ed Orgeron. When Orgeron was elevated to head coach, Brennan expressed happiness over the move. Then the uncertainty surrounding LSU’s offensive coordinator position coupled with Orgeron telling reporters how vital dual-threat quarterbacks are, prompted Brennan, a pocket-passer, to re-open his recruitment.
To be clear, the four-star 2017 St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) quarterback said he has not decommitted, but is now fielding calls and interest from other schools, something Brennan hadn’t done prior to Nov. 30.

LSU is still where Brennan, who set the state’s career records for passing yards and passing touchdowns this season, is tied to the most.
“Obviously, I love it,” Brennan said. “I wouldn’t have committed there if I didn’t. I was there every home game. I committed under Les Miles and Cam Cameron and stayed through the ups and downs of trying to find a coach and now it is just another bump in the road to try to find an offensive coordinator. I love it down in Baton Rouge and I am hoping everything can work out.”
The significant thing to watch for in regards to Brennan and LSU is who gets the offensive coordinator job.
“It’s really important,” Brennan said. “I feel like that is going to be kind of the thing that makes my decision one way or another.”
If Brennan were to leave LSU, there are at least two potential suitors in Ole Miss and Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State offered Brennan right around the time he re-opened his recruitment. The school did not offer Brennan back in the spring because they had not yet seen him throw at that point. Oklahoma State, which Brennan plans to check out on an official visit in January, always kept Brennan in mind, St. Stanislaus coach Bill Conides said.
“I’m grateful for that,” Brennan said. “They were patient with me and when they did pull the trigger, the coaches told me, ‘Look, this is what we have, this is what we have to offer you and we are laying it on the table for you and we are not pressuring you to do anything because you were patient with us and we will be patient with you.’”
Ole Miss offered Brennan after he had committed to LSU. Brennan spoke to Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze on Monday and plans to take an official visit to Oxford in January with his family. It would be his first visit to the school, he said.
Brennan said he was told by Freeze and offensive coordinator Dan Werner that there is always the possibility quarterback Shea Patterson will leave the Rebels early and if Brennan redshirts his freshman year then Brennan could possibly play three years.
“And that would work,” Brennan said. “But I kind of have to just go there and ask the questions.”
Brennan has two main topics he would like to discuss with Ole Miss. One is the impact of the NCAA situation and the other is how the Rebels would use his skill-set, considering he is much more of a pocket-passer than Chad Kelly, Shea Patterson and Bo Wallace.
“I’ll just talk to them and be ready to see how they would use me and see what works best for them and what works best for me.”
